In light of our current economic reality, many voters returned a Republican majority to the House. Whether that was the right thing to do or not is debatable. However, what is not debatable is that business, both big and small, needs to start hiring again. If business hires, the government won’t have to spend so much. In reference to this spending, the coming months promise fierce debate over the expiring Bush Tax Cuts. Our economic and political realities demand compromise.
Why is there no offer on the table to extend the tax cuts for individuals and entities with incomes over $250K with the stipulation that they must hire U.S. workers in numbers relative to the amount of their incomes that are over the threshold? This could be included in a "Jobs" bill that would turn the tax cut expiration into just the incentive business needs to resume a hiring economy. Further, it would ultimately have to be a successful bipartisan effort, as it would be hard for Congress, or anyone, to defend a wealthy America that refuses to hire in the face of such incentive.
